Choosing the Right Paint Applicator for Your Home

When you decide to paint a room or any part of your home there are different paint applicators that you can choose from. Choosing the right one can help with the job looking nicer and more professional. The different types of applicators include paint brushes, foam brushes, pad painters, and rollers.

Painting a room is fun especially when you are painting to match the artificial Christmas trees for the holidays. There are many reasons people paint but it is common that people choose the wrong things to paint with. It doesn’t matter if you are painting to match Christmas trees or painting prelit Christmas trees on the wall. You need to know what the best applier is for the job. This will help you be more successful with your endeavor.

Many people choose natural paint brushes every time they paint. Natural brushes are actually designed for oil based paints because they have natural bristles. When they are used with water based paints they don’t work quite well because the bristles actually soak up the water. There are synthetic bristles that are specifically designed for water based and latex paints. When you purchase paints be sure you choose the paint brushes designed for the type of paint that you purchase.

If you have a small or touch up job then you might consider using the foam brushes or foam rollers. Foam is great for a small job but you don’t want to use them for big jobs. They are very affordable. The foam rollers are a great selection because paint doesn’t splatter when you use them. They are also very easy to use and work perfectly to smooth out a wall. Rough surfaces don’t respond to foam brushes and the paint doesn’t look quite right. Plus, a rough surface can actually damage the foam and cause the longevity of the brush to be short lived.

Pad painters are a simple solution for many people. They are easy to use and allow for a neat application without getting paint all over the place. One thing to keep in mind is that you shouldn’t apply too much paint to the pad because the paint will drip. This will cause you to be forced to take the pad apart when you clean it and then you will be required to start over.

Paint rollers are long lasting and great for big jobs. They work on most wall surfaces and provide a smooth looking texture to a paint job. The inside of a paint roller has a plastic core which allows the roller to be used over and over. If you choose a roller with a cardboard core then it may need to be replaced often. When you are painting on flat and smooth walls then you want to use a flat and smooth roller. For walls that have a rougher texture then you want to use a plusher roller that will go over bumps and crevices well and provide for a nicely done paint job.

Preparations for Painting the Inside of a Home

There are many things that you need to do when you plan on painting. These things include removing hardware, getting ready, not painting over problem walls, and much more. When you plan a room paint job right you have a better chance of the room looking fantastic.

Many people like to paint a room based on a holiday which means they paint often. They might like to paint for a theme with lighted palm trees or even just to match the artificial Christmas trees. Whether the reason you are painting is for the holidays or for a child you need to be sure to do a good job or you will be stuck doing it again if you want it to look right once you remove Christmas tree.

The first thing that you should do when you plan on painting a room is to remove all of the hardware and furniture out of the room. Don’t move furniture to the center of the room and find you have to climb over it as you do your paint job. Paint will still find its way to items in the center of the room and if you have to climb over things you might find that you accidentally break things during the project. Your hardware is much safer when you completely remove it out of the room so you can paint. Also, if you absolutely cannot move furniture out then you should tape cloth around the furniture and be sure there is no way that paint will get through and ruin it.

Another thing you need to consider when you are painting a room inside is that you never paint over problem walls. This includes things like cracks and holes in the walls. If there are cracks and holes then you should use a spackle and be sure to smooth out the areas first. This will ensure that the paint is applied on the walls properly and there is not a problem. If you do not smooth out the cracks and holes then they will still be visible and the paint job will not look up to par.

When you are painting a room you also have to consider that no matter how hard you try you will get specks of paint around the room and on things. Be prepared by taping corners and edges of windows and laying down plenty of plastic. You don’t want paint in the carpet or on a nice tile floor.

There are many things that you should do before you begin painting a room. Never bring in a bucket of paint and just start painting the walls. The things that you should consider doing first include preparing the room by moving the furniture and all of the hardware out, lay down plastic and tape corners and edges, and always repair the walls before you begin. By practicing these things you will be able to ensure that you do a good job on the room and it looks nice.
